"My response to the “I am not a feminist” internet phenomenon….
First of all, it’s clear you don’t know what feminism is. But I’m not going to explain it to you. You can google it. To quote an old friend, “I’m not the feminist babysitter.”
But here is what I think you should know.
You’re insulting every woman who was forcibly restrained in a jail cell with a feeding tube down her throat for your right to vote, less than 100 years ago.
You’re degrading every woman who has accessed a rape crisis center, which wouldn’t exist without the feminist movement.
You’re undermining every woman who fought to make marital rape a crime (it was legal until 1993).
You’re spitting on the legacy of every woman who fought for women to be allowed to own property (1848). For the abolition of slavery and the rise of the labor union. For the right to divorce. For women to be allowed to have access to birth control (Comstock laws). For middle and upper class women to be allowed to work outside the home (poor women have always worked outside the home). To make domestic violence a crime in the US (It is very much legal in many parts of the world). To make workplace sexual harassment a crime.
In short, you know not what you speak of. You reap the rewards of these women’s sacrifices every day of your life. When you grin with your cutsey sign about how you’re not a feminist, you ignorantly spit on the sacred struggle of the past 200 years. You bite the hand that has fed you freedom, safety, and a voice.
In short, kiss my ass, you ignorant little jerks.””

I am honoring all those women by choosing my own opinions and my own politics. I refuse to align myself with any movement that does not allow me to disagree. Those women fought for my right to decide what I think, how I act, how I dress, everything I do.
I am not a feminist because I want to be allowed to disagree.
I am not a feminist because I’m sick of feminists telling me what to believe.
I am not a feminist because I’m sick of feminists telling me what words to use.
I am not a feminist because I’m sick of feminists telling me what I can and can’t do in the bedroom.
I am not a feminist because feminists told me I wasn’t really bi because I’d never dated a girl.
I am not a feminist because I don’t want to have kids and I should not be treated differently than women who do.
I am not a feminist because I was told that I was a “gender traitor” for believing my male friend when he told me he was raped.
I am not a feminist because I do not think that conservative women cannot be feminists. I am not a feminist because I respect women who are pro-life.
I am not a feminist because I vote for Republicans every now and then, and feminists tell me that I cannot possibly vote Republican, because my uterus determines my political views.
I am not a feminist because feminists talk about women as if we are a homogenous voting block, as if my gender has anything to do with my political beliefs.
I am not a feminist because I voted for John McCain.
I am not a feminist because I value reproductive beliefs, and I want my male partners to have the ability to choose whether or not they want to become fathers, without sacrificing their sex lives. I don’t have to, so why should they?
I am not a feminist because of you. You want to tell me what to believe, what to think, how to act, what to say, what to do. You want to control me.
Nobody controls me. I make my own decisions, my own choices, and because of the way you have treated me, I AM NOT ONE OF YOU.
By the way, it’s only married women who couldn’t own property. Read a fucking book. Oh, and domestic violence? Pshh, please. Women can’t rape men in the United States and Great Britain, according to the law. In fucking first-world Western nations. That’s yet another reason why I’m not a feminist - because feminists lobbied for that to be the case.
